On top of my gluten issues, I was also diagnosed with a severe allergy to corn and corn by-products. Sadly for me and others afflicted with this allergy, a high percentage of gluten-free foods contain some form of corn. My unsuccessful search for gluten and corn free led me to open Nadia’s Market. I wanted a place where people could come in and find a good selection of GF products and especially where we can share our stories, experiences, ideas, and triumphs. The variety has continued to grow, local suppliers are showcased, organic and non-GMO is becoming more viable and we’ve expanded to include a larger selection of other allergen free products.
Since I’ve opened I have been blessed with an amazing clientele and have learned more about issues people suffer with every day and realize that we’re not alone. The education and knowledge and availability of product are tenfold from when I started 10 years ago.
One stop shopping experience for those requiring allergen free products. A place where personal experience and knowledge is shared.

My name is Nadia Baronas, owner of Nadia's Market - the first dedicated Gluten-Free store in St. Catharines - opened September 13, 2012.
Born and raised in Thorold/St. Catharines it wasn't until 2006 when my symptoms took a turn for the worse. With the help of a certified holistic practitioner who suggested I begin by removing wheat and/or gluten from my diet did an abundance of symptoms disappear almost immediately. Headaches, extreme bowel disorders, joint pain, depression, digestive issues, rashes and hives just to name a few had disappeared completely or had significantly subsided! I was energized and became this happy new person. Even my skin glowed! It was during this time that I began to educate myself on wheat/gluten and realized the severity of my intolerance to gluten and that these issues went as far back as my childhood years. The problem was that there was very little information available. As time went on I learned more and more about Celiac Disease and gluten intolerances/sensitivities. Unfortunately, I had removed all gluten out of my system, therefore could not have the biopsy to confirm the disease. I was not willing to consume the amount of gluten required for the biopsy and continued the gluten-free way of life. Over the next few years as I learned more I realized there are a lot of people out there of all ages, suffering from celiac, gluten intolerance and a significant variety of other food allergies.
